SIR – Brian Holmans should desist from misreading or misinterpreting other people’s letters (Letters, January 22).
Of course the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty has not seen the sky fall in. All the ramifications will hit us stealthily, but it does not put an end to the billions we contribute to the corrupt organisation – money we could be using to help our own economy.
I never said climate change was an EU conspiracy, but its plans to reduce CO2 emissions are unrealistic and, in view of possible massaging of facts and statistics by some dubious people, may be pointless, while we raise green taxes willy-nilly.
I understand Cameron’s idea is to use these, especially from motorists and air travellers, to finance his policies.
There are no excuses for this, though the wise spending of the taxes on things to reduce CO2 may be tolerated.
