SIR – Whenever I see the Human Rights Act mentioned in the news (supported by the European Union), it is helping some serial criminal wanting even more comfort in prison, helping someone preaching hatred towards Britain, often getting vast amounts of benefits, or some terrorist who has killed people.

It never seems to be the victims of crime, or workers who have lost jobs because of this Labour Government’s unwillingness to stop the selling of our best companies abroad – such as Cadbury’s – unlike the French, whose government stops this.

It is the hard-working UK taxpayers who are funding the tens of millions paid to bureaucrats, the Human Rights brigade, and their lawyers.

Please could anyone explain just what has happened to this country over the last ten years?
