SIR – In response to comments made in Rants and Raves (T&A, June 10), I would like to clarify for your readers that, irrespective of personal opinion, the law is clear: anyone who watches or records television programmes on any channel and on any broadcast platform (terrestrial, satellite, cable and the internet) as they are being broadcast must be covered by a valid TV licence.
People found to be using television receiving equipment without a valid licence risk prosecution, a fine of up to £1,000, and they are still required to buy a licence if they need one. The cost for a colour TV licence is £139.50.
TV Licensing would always prefer people to pay rather than risk prosecution, however, and if any of your other readers would like further information on the ways to pay for a TV licence, they can contact TV Licensing on 0844 8006732 , or visit tvlicensing.co.uk.
