SIR – Post Office Ltd states that 89.8 per cent of customers in West Yorkshire will see no change after the proposed closures, and a further ten per cent will be within a mile (by road distance) of an alternative.

I am a regular customer of Ashbourne Post Office which is earmarked for closure. I sell on the internet and have posted hundreds of parcels in the last few years.

If Ashbourne were to close, my nearest branch would be more than a mile away, which means that I (and possibly quite a lot of people who live near me) would be in a tiny minority of just 0.2 per cent.

I was curious to know where the unaffected branches were in relation to each other. On a map of Bradford I drew a circle around each one. A radius equivalent to 0.6 miles was enough for most circles to touch. Interestingly, many circles intersect which indicates that some people will be close to two or more branches.

The only areas not within a circle as a result of the changes are Bolton and Fairweather Green.

If branches have to close, shouldn’t the Post Office ensure that the remaining ones are spread out evenly?
