SIR - Bradford Council has voted to back plans to devolve powers and create a West Yorkshire Mayoral Authority (T&A, September 9).

This, I suppose, is no great surprise with Labour Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe supporting that way forward, and obviously taking her substantial majority of councillors with her.

Not all Council members were happy with the deal - not surprisingly, with many people still preferring a One Yorkshire authority.

However, the big concern is who will become the new West Yorkshire Mayor?

Surely the last thing we need is a political appointment such as Councillor Hinchcliffe or Judith Blake in Leeds - both failed leaders in many eyes.

Far better to have a high profile, experienced and well respected business figure to run an unbiased Mayoral office.
