SIR - I am utterly dismayed to read that yet another call to make face masks mandatory in our schools is being echoed by the Labour councillor for Bradford Moor. Given this is contrary to government guidance for primary school children, one needs to asks why such draconian measures need to be called for given the fact the problem lays with parents, not the children - and that children are not the super-spreaders of COVID-19 they were once thought to have been.

Other measures such as sending the parent and child home until a parent complies with the social distancing rules would be less traumatic for such young children than having to wear a face mask all day in school, and such calls must be resisted by headteachers. Parents will soon get the message!
