SIR - Everyone today seems to be congratuling James Anderson on taking his 600th Test Wicket; he has played in 156 Test Matches.
There seems to be no mention of the late, great, Freddie Trueman who took 307 Test wickets in just 67 Test Matches. His partnership with Brian (George) Statham was one to be feared; 'George' took over 250 test wickets.
Test matches in those days were not as frequent and their records should always be remembered; Freddie was the first bowler to take 300 test wickets; Neil Hawke (Australia) in 1964, caught by Colin Cowdrey at first slip was the victim. Who was the first person to congratulate Freddie? Neil Hawke with a hand shake; bring back those days! No reviews or DRS, just get on with the game.
