SIR - Commuters could face airport-style checks at major rail stations - including in Bradford and Leeds - in the crackdown on terrorism (T&A, November 15).

These measures would only focus on those of our 250 busiest stations most at risk but what's to stop a terrorist boarding and alighting at any intermediate station having planted a bomb on the train, timed to explode on its arrival at a major destination?

Regardless of the inconvenience to passengers, security must be stepped up all along the line.

Needless to say vigilance at all times is paramount. Let us never forget that the sole aim of these misguided zealots is to murder as many innocent, defenceless men, women and children as possible in their belief that having done so they will end up in paradise.
