SIR - It looks like we are finally getting to the crux of the Brexit issue with little or no chance of striking a meaningful trade deal with the EU but hoping for something special in the shape of a US trade deal (God help us)

Any deal with Donald Trump will carry a high cost to the UK, unlikely to make up for what we loose trading outside the EU and any hope of a meaningful trade relationship with China has been sacrificed on the alter of Mr T.

The whole debacle is based purely on the Tory wishes for deregulation and avoiding the tax avoidance laws being introduced by the EU, and the ordinary man in the street will be the ones to pay the price.

Having had our economy laid waste by the coronavirus crisis, the hefty damage inflicted by Brexit will be largely swept aside in it`s wake and easily covered up by a government who`s only real skill appears to be just that, the art of the great cover up !

Hold on people, we`re in for a very austere decade ahead.
