SIR - As Peter Rushforth surmises (T&A, November 20) there should be ample oil for my bike, but that is about all.

The Brazilian Tupi field, 155 miles out in the Atlantic, will produce up to eight billion barrels of oil. That is enough to supply world demand for 90 days, just three months. It's being developed by the Brazilian state oil company, not BP.

Unfortunately it is the second-biggest find anywhere in the last 30 years, so it might be prudent to use what is left sparingly.

The North Sea well mentioned is on a much smaller scale.
