SIR - The concerns raised about increased binge-drinking' and related calls for the repeal of 24-hour licensing laws will, of course, come to nothing.
The reason for this is a secret Faustian Pact' reached between the Government and the drinks trade a couple of years ago. It went something like this: "You can have 24-hour licensing if you promise not to campaign against our smoking ban".
Silent handshakes all round, new licenses were issued, the smoking ban followed, nobody campaigned, everyone was happy.
Well, I'm not. Is everyone else?
