SIR - I would add to Simon Halliday's comments re: Jon Pertwee and Worzel Gummidge. JP was a fine character actor with a real feel for comedy and he utilised his facial expressions as well as his talent for 'voices' very effectively in his acting. I first came across him as a child listening to The Navy Lark with my parents, which went out on radio every Saturday lunchtime. I next greatly enjoyed his portrayal of the third Dr Who from 1970-1974. And when he left the series, he later talked of how keen he was to take the Worzel Gummidge stories to the tv screen.
What a fine job he made of this role, which made for highly-enjoyable Sunday tea time viewing, for 'kids' aged from eight to 80!
