SIR - I look forward to reading letters from Keith Thomson, even though in the main I disagree with what he writes.

He tends to state as a fact something that he believes in, but I must call him to account again.

His letter It's an ill wind' (T&A, November 2) contains the following statement, and I quote: "Oil is running out".

Whilst I agree that oil is not a finite commodity, it is far from running out.

New oil fields are being prospected and, as we know, Russia has recently found a gas field which in their own terms is vast, and where one is, the other is usually not far away.

Therefore, to say oil is running out is a misnomer.
