SIR - Most people know we are in a climate emergency and many understand that forest destruction is one of its driving causes.

Some also know that cattle farming is contributing to forests being cleared to make way for ranches.

Yet, perhaps what is less well-understood is that forests are also being cut down to grow feed for animals like turkey and chicken, which supermarkets sell in the UK.

Every year on Christmas Day, 10 million turkeys are consumed in the UK alone.

Yet we, with other countries, need to cut down meat consumption by 70 per cent over the next 10 years, if the world is to stand a chance of tackling climate breakdown.
