SIR - THIS week seventy five years ago (6th June 1944), my father landed on the British Gold Beach, as part of the Normandy Landings.
He was twenty three, but already an experienced soldier, as part of the famous Eighth Army in North Africa and at the Battle of El Alamein in 1942.
I offered several times to take him back to North Africa and Normandy, but he refused.
Of his two involvement in different theatres of the War, he had spent exactly four complete years away, I hardly knew him.
Yours etc
