SIR - The Brexiteers among us have spent the last two-and-a-half years telling us that claims of food and medicine shortages, gridlocked ports and a shrinking economy were all merely project fear by the ''Remoaners''.

If that was the case, why is the government suddenly spending billions of taxpayers' money on preparing us for all these scenarios?

Surely this is money down the drain if there was no substance to the predictions of a post-Brexit downturn.

It would appear that leaving the EU won't be the walk in the park predicted by the EU-hating little Englanders after all!
