SIR - I remember going to the Alhambra to see Laurel and Hardy and also George Formby, the Billy Cotton Band and many more famous artists.
My late wife and I also went to see the great Mario Lanza at St George's Hall. We paid the princely sum of 15 shillings to sit at the rear of the auditorium.
It was his only appearance in England outside of London.
Another great name to be at St George's Hall was Howard Keel. Does anyone remember that?
