SIR - Just before Christmas I saw a fly-tipping by the River Aire and would like to warn the refuse collection department at Bradford Council that these incidents will increase if they don't improve their service.

Where we live and because of the situation we’re in they regularly fail to collect all the bags. They will not collect refuse if there is any obstruction at all. Don't explain why they haven't collected it and penalise the wrong people. They’ve also left behind just one bag that was on top of a full bin and put it back in wrong the one.

For a long time we've had to remember to take bins out and now we have a two-weekly service which includes recycling every other week. Over Christmas many customers had to wait longer for collection and the website gave confusing information. Not everyone has a computer.

Generally, the notion of providing a good public service has declined and been replaced by a health and safety conscious petty mindedness that seems bereft of any common sense or sense of duty to the public. This obsession with wrapping workers in cotton wool must stop and it should be about serving people.
