SIR - Could I as someone of mature years reassure the EU Remainers who believe the UK cannot survive outside the EU, that there was life before joining, including the war years when the first attempt to create a European Union was defeated. This was followed by prosperity in the Fifties, prompting the Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, to coin the phrase: "You've never had it so good."
