SIR - Helen Mead (T&A, October 1) calls for all gambling adverts to be outlawed, in the same way that cigarette adverts were banned some years ago.

I couldn't agree more. One only has to look at Sky TV to see exactly what is wrong.

An excellent example, of many, is the Gillette Soccer Saturday programme on Sky Sports News which runs from noon until 6 pm, and is a magnet for youngsters as well as all football followers.

On every single break in this programme there is at least one gambling advert throughout the six broadcast hours. No wonder there are so many problem gamblers out there when television is awash with such offerings, and on other networks as well.

The sooner all such adverts are banned the better it will be for the well being of us all.
