SIR - After reading your article about missed hospital appointments (T&A September 24), I felt compelled to add my own observations.
After an operation at the end of March, I waited, to no avail to receive my follow-up appointment. Eventually, after many weeks I received a letter advising me that as I hadn't turned up for my appointment, I was being referred back to my GP. So, as you can see, I am one of the people mentioned in your article having "missed" my appointment.
Going back to my GP to explain the situation I was told that I was not the first patient this had happened to. Multiply this by all the GPs in all the surgeries in the area and I suspect that this could amount to a considerable number of patients like myself who have missed appointments due to no fault of their own.
Are these clerical errors or something else? I do know that I now have to wait until the middle of November for the appointment I should have had six months ago.
