SIR - The attacks on the police and firefighters by juvenile low lifes made for depressing reading (T&A, September 28).

Councillor John Pennington, Bradford Council's Conservative leader, was quite right to call for a zero tolerance approach from the police.

These continued attacks need to be given the highest priority, and maybe the police should be using some intermittent undercover snatch squads to arrest these undesirables.

They should then be given youth custody sentences to get them off the streets, and to hammer the message home.

Further, the parents of these mindless vandals should also be brought before the courts and made to understand that they too have a responsibility in such matters.
