SIR - Does councillor Martin Love (Green Shipley) use the M606 on a regular basis? (T&A, September 28) If not, he is hardly qualified to criticise the decision to further suspend the regulations. It is my morning commute, but I do not go on the M62, I go further round the roundabout; unless there has been a breakdown or an accident (both fairly frequent) on the M62 between junctions 26 and 27, the majority of motorway traffic uses the car share lane, which means the traffic round the roundabout can flow more easily. Prior to the suspension there were queues in all three lanes coming off the M606 and motorway users were in all of them!

It is naïve to think that the idea of car sharing was ever going to be significantly successful and any reduction in emissions from taking a few cars off the road was more than wiped out by the fumes from queueing cars, I would suggest.
