SIR - Could things be worse for most people in this country, in peace time? Most families are on average £800 worse off than before the economic crash which happened exactly 10 years ago. More are in work but many on low wages. The neo-liberal concept of austerity continues to be pushed, despite it doing nothing but bringing misery and pain to most and creating greater inequality. Public services take the brunt of the squeeze with all that entails.

To cap it all, Brexit and the competing plans for this 'gamble' occupy most of the attention of the Government with just about everything else going to pot. Whilst all this goes on, members of the governing party connive and deceive, vying to take over from a mistrusted leader, desperately hanging on to power for the sake of it.
