SIR - Despite Government claims to the contrary, things are getting worse in our schools. Approximately £2.8 billion has been cut from school budgets and this has obviously had a detrimental effect. Teachers and school staff are being cut or not replaced if they leave. Building repairs are being put on hold. And, as some subjects have been dropped from the school curriculum, class sizes have increased. In some schools parents have even been asked for financial help. Particularly concerning and sad is the fact that it is becoming harder to meet the needs of 'children with special educational needs and disabilities' (SEND).

All of this is short-sighted and counter-productive as a good education should be the right of every child and ensuring this happens is a sound investment in the future adult population of our country. Not to do so can only damage the UK in the long run.
