SIR - The volume of retrospective planning applications has been an unacceptable feature of Bradford for far too long. It is surely preferable for the vast majority of these to be refused to get the message across that building work should not be undertaken until proper permissions have been received.
It was therefore disturbing to read (T&A, September 7) that many families in some inner city areas are building illegal extensions to their houses, and more particularly, that some local councillors seem to consider such actions to be acceptable.
If people cannot afford to move house, and there is no legal way to extend, then it is up to them to cut their cloth accordingly, both in property terms and family numbers.
The impression is also given that certain councillors would seem to be looking after their own instead of considering the betterment of our city - and how it needs it!
