SIR - Much has been written about animals suffering cruelty in foreign lands, the latest being the bullfights and bull runs in Spain and the poor dogs killed for meat in the Philippines.
However, shouldn't we first put our own house in order.
In this country we still allow fox hunting, although it's illegal; we still have animals slaughtered without pre-stunning; dog fighting is on the increase and pet shops still sell pups and kittens, despite there being too many in the country already, openly encouraging people to bring in litters for cash or gifts.
Yes I am appalled at cruelty overseas. Yes, I am sickened by it, but I feel if everyone concentrated on our problems we might then be truly a nation of real animal lovers.
