SIR - A gentleman from Menston once told me that the railways in Bradford were built such as they were because the city with all of its burgeoning industry was seen by the city fathers as an important destination and not just somewhere to pass through.

Bradford not only had two important passenger stations in Bradford Exchange and Bradford Forster Square but great freight yards were attached to both stations.

Perhaps the best outcome for Bradford of having had two railway stations today is that the city has been left two great railway hotels which form two of the finest buildings in Bradford.
