SIR - I write regarding the recent coverage of the Park at the Heart bid. I've lived in the city centre for many years and would welcome a park.
So, how about this? Turf and landscape the Broadway site. Ensure all the existing retail units in the city are filled before building more. This might mean bringing rates down, but surely this would be more economical than mounting a bid and would ultimately generate revenue and employment.
Wait, I hear you cry, we need a large well-appointed retail space'. Well, there's this big building on the end of my street, currently vacant, lots of space, iconic and attractive.
It's a historic city landmark and beloved of the locals who would like to see it in use again. It's known as The Odeon.
It's a darn fool plan, but it might just work.
