SIR – I am aware that the A&E departments of hospitals throughout the country are often the subject of some sorry incidents with regard to the length of time it can take to deal with the many patients who attend, sometimes without real justification.

Perhaps, this is because of the difficulty in securing an appointment to see a doctor or the guidance of a pharmacist when a visit to the A&E is more convenient and readily available.

A few days ago my wife hurt her leg in an accident with a vacuum cleaner, which a nurse told us required hospital treatment. So we set off to the A&E department at Bradford Royal Infirmary with a possible long wait in front of us, or so we thought. However my wife was quickly registered and within 10 minutes was seen by a doctor and shortly afterwards by two reassuring nurses.

From start to finish the treatment was excellent and I am sure thousands over a period of time receive the same excellent dedicated service.

Our thanks go to the BRI A&E staff for the good work you do, day and in day out, sometimes – no often – without the recognition you deserve.
