SIR – Commenting on Iain Morris’ letter (December 23), religion is not the cause of problems, just like alcohol, cars, money, etc, do not cause problems.

Rather, it is people and their handling of the commodity that cause problems. Two people can practise the same religion – one does good with it, the other does evil.

Who or what is to blame? The religion or the person?

One person can have an occasional alcoholic drink with control, another binge drinks or becomes addicted to alcohol.

Is alcohol responsible, or the person? We can use the same analogy for most things. We must each bear responsibility for our own actions and not seek to blame something or someone outside of ourselves.
