SIR – So, now we know – even the Saltaire World Heritage site is not safe in the hands of Bradford Council, its inept planning officers and councillors.
A new “contemporary-style” building is to be erected in Exhibition Road (T&A, July 24), just a stone’s throw from Salts Mill and within its sight lines from both within and looking down Victoria Road, where the view will be changed forever.
The new college building will by no means conform to the listed buildings on this World Heritage site and the agreement to its development tells us all we need to know about how our disastrous council operates.
We do not deserve to have such gems when they are so poorly regarded by the powers-that-be. No wonder so many in the area wish to break away from the control of Bradford Council.
