SIR - Mr Rhodes claims (T&A, January 8) that the "twin-towered eyesore" (the former Odeon) offends both residents and visitors.
Why then is there strong and growing opposition to the demolition of this building?
I have seen photos, old and new, of the interior and if only it was refurbished this building could be a wonderful asset for Bradford which is more than can be said of the proposed replacement which only came third in a competition - unbelievable!
I have obtained the book Bye Bye Broadway published by the T&A which contains photos of wonderful and lovely buildings which were demolished in the Fifties and Sixties and I can't help feeling that what happened in those years was absolutely criminal.
Soon there will be calls for the Alhambra and City Hall to be demolished. I recommend this book and the Bradford Odeon Rescue Group's brochure to everyone, it's very revealing.
What other council in this country would allow its centre to be demolished without any firm plans for immediate rebuilding?
We have a Council lacking vision which should resign on block and let Norman Littlewood, John Pennington and others take over.
