SIR – Huge numbers of people have, understandably, signed petitions objecting to any closures by Bradford Council of public toilets in Bingley, Shipley and St Ives (T&A, July 9).
Labour councillor Andrew Thornton blames the cuts imposed by central government upon the council, but it seems that the substantial costs of union representation have still not been swept aside. That these could probably be used to cover the moneys required to retain these toilets says much about the priorities of our current Labour-led council.
