SIR - There is not much point in the government complaining that airlines are flying people about when that is what they do well.

Allowing new runways to be built and putting up train fares will only encourage them and is not the best way to reduce the amount of flying and resulting carbon dioxide.

There needs to be a ban on all new airport development and subsidies for the railways to improve the services and reduce fares.
