SIR - With Iraq in social and political meltdown, I wondered how far we would be into the new year before Labour attempted to divert attention away from their disastrous period in office with petty attacks on the BNP, a party with no legislative power whatsoever.

My answer came on January 1, New Year's Day, in the form of Councillor Vanda Greenwood who decided to have a go at BNP activist Neil Craig, accusing him of being untruthful and "out of touch".

Out of touch with what, Vanda? Your political peers at Westminster deceived this nation into needless war in Iraq after lying to us about "weapons of mass destruction" and falsely accusing Saddam of having links with al Qaida.

Your party promised us the war was "not about regime change", and yet that is precisely what took place.

Add to these the Labour lies about immigration, the European Union, the NHS and cash for peerages and we have a political party that is completely out of touch with the electorate and has been for quite some time.
