SIR – We all know that if something sounds too good to be true it probably is. Well the EU decision to cut mobile phone charges abroad is just that.
It sounds all well and dandy to have cheaper roaming charges when you are sunning yourself abroad on your annual holiday, but the downside is that the telecom operators’ loss of revenue will be added on to domestic bills.
This action by the EU will increase costs for the majority to cut costs for the minority. It is the same MEPs who voted in favour of this change who will benefit.
The reality is pensioners on pay-as-you-go will be subsiding EU fat cats, and that surely cannot be right. The decision, which UKIP opposed, still requires the approval of member states, and I hope there is a backlash against it.
