SIR - Notwithstanding any timetable implications for turnaround times at Manchester Victoria, should Low Moor railway station be reopened, trains to Huddersfield and Blackpool would be able to stop at Low Moor from the outset.

Thus Low Moor would not remain unused, as suggested by Councillor King (T&A, December 26), as became the case at Cleckheaton when passenger services ceased in 1965.

Northern Rail received very high public subsidies in operating its franchise, including payments from Metro. Thus Metro would be able to exert the required pressure on Northern Rail in ensuring compliance for servicing Low Moor.

Coun King may be displeased by Bradford Rail Users' Group's assessment of Metro as regards progress made at Low Moor.

However, as little tangible progress has been made since Rail Plan Five was formulated in 2000, BRUG's criticism is more than justified.

While the question of government funding remains a concern, Metro by now should have finalised design plans for Low Moor, identified the actual site and resolved access and land ownership matters.

A failure to have achieved all this would clearly show Metro's lack of ambition, as action has more value than rhetoric!
