SIR – A recent comment by a Yorkshire Water official summed up nicely the absolute greed of all the nationalised industries!
When asked about Yorkshire Water not paying tax (Corporation Tax that is) on profits of £148/£149 million he responded by saying that if they did pay taxes on that amount they would have to put prices up for all their customers.
What he should have been saying is that they would accept lower profits and reduce the dividend to shareholders, but no, let’s clobber the poor customer instead.
What an attitude, what a disgrace, which really emphasises the need that all the utilities should be renationalised.
