The news that Bradford Bulls are once again facing financial difficulties is unfortunate, but perhaps not completely surprising.

There have been rumours of behind-the-scenes concern doing the rounds over recent weeks, and the new owners of the club in a revealing statement yesterday accepted they have not been as transparent as they might have been.

But it is unfair for all the blame for the current situation to be levelled at the previous ownership under Omar Khan.

The difficulties the club faces date back to way before the previous administration had any involvement at all in the club.

When Mr Khan and Gerry Sutcliffe took over last year, the Bulls were in a perilous place, in administration and heading for liquidation, and the fact that they not only survived but remain, at least for the moment, in Super League, should be remembered by fans, players and everyone connected to the club.

Mark Moore and his team must have been aware they were taking on a club still in need of a lot of care and attention – they would have had to have been blinkered not to. Surely anyone investing money in a sports club of all things would complete their due diligence before doing so?

For long-suffering supporters, there are tough times ahead. For club staff and players, there is now uncertainty about their long term future.

There is no doubt the new owners face an extremely difficult task in taking the club forward now. Yet again they will need a huge level of support from fans and the business community if they are to have a fighting chance of doing so.
