SIR - On June 15, 1945, a Liberator aircraft of No 232 Squadron of RAF Transport Command crashed in the Purbeck Hills near Corfe Castle in Dorset with the loss of all 27 crew and passengers on board.
This was Dorset's worst-ever air crash.
One of the passengers, en route to India, was LAC Herbert Arthur' Blackburn, husband of Ellen Blackburn, of Thrybergh, and son of Arthur and Nellie Blackburn, of Windhill, Shipley.
A group of former RAF personnel and others are planning to erect a memorial to those who died here in the service of their country and I would be delighted to hear from any relatives or friends of the late LAC Blackburn. I can be contacted at the address below, by telephone on (01305) 848895, or by e-mail at CPomeroy@aol.com Colin Pomeroy, Pallington Lakes, Pallington, Dorchester, Dorset, DT2 8QU
