SIR – Re David Rhodes’s letter (T&A, July 17). I’m not privy to discussions between Government ministers, but do pay attention to the news which reported on plans to stop the winter fuel allowance for wealthy pensioners.
I’m not aware of plans to stop it for other pensioners (there would be no need to discuss the wealthy as being treated differently), so perhaps Mr Rhodes knows more than I do?
I did hear suggestions to include the allowance into a substantially increased pension. While pensions have been substantially increased under the coalition, I’m unaware that the increase includes a scrapped winter fuel allowance. If so, apologies.
Perhaps Mr Rhodes could tell me where he gets his information so that I don't miss such important announcements again?
