SIR – I would like to endorse Catherine Alderson’s letter about the Hunsworth weekend (pictured).

I am 92 years young, but found it just fantastic. Although I was disabled during the war (1939-1945), I was helping to make the Merlin and Vulture aircraft engines and various field guns and tank guns.

While I found the event really smashing, I did not see any mention of the thousands of munition workers who kept ‘the wheels turning’ for the armed forces.

The only point I made to an official was the shortage of seating for the elderly visitors, which he was very kind enough to take note of.

Once again to all engaged, thanks for making an old guy’s day. See you next year!
