SIR – Bradfordians regard Lister Park as a “jewel in the crown” of the city. Indeed, visitors have claimed it is better than some of the royal parks in London.
So why the lack of security, especially at night? If a member of the public had not spotted smoke, the cafe at its heart would have been gutted before the fire service arrived on the scene.
Police think that the Saturday night blaze might have been started deliberately, but one of the cafe staff said the fire had been started deliberately (T&A, July 15).
I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky that whoever piled rubbish against the cafe and set it alight didn’t target Cartwright Hall instead. Security should be the Council’s watchword.
