SIR – The Leeds City Council recognise that it might be more convenient for householders from Bradford to visit a Leeds tip and confirms that they are welcome to do so (T&A, July 16).

This gives Councillor Thornton the opportunity to admit that he was wrong, cancel the waste permit scheme and accept that waste facilities should be for common usage within the Leeds City Region.

We all make mistakes, and while the cost of setting up the scheme is water under the bridge to continue with the cost of invigilating it is more money down the drain.
