SIR - Jamie Oliver's campaign for better school meals and healthier options to eating burger and chips is still controversial.

If these parents complain of not having enough money to buy proper food and say it's a cheap meal from the takeaway, then get real. In the long term fresh cooked food is cheaper. Once cooked a family of four can get four helpings out of a stew and casserole.

It's time to get back to home cooking. If these parents learned to cook proper meals they would learn the value, taste, presentation and economics of this type of food.

Britain is only following America's lead for fast food outlets and is a nation of fatties because of this.

If children learned to cook they would understand the true value of good, healthier food.
