SIR – The article (T&A, February 21) about Bradford Council turning down a planning application from Zouk to build a new restaurant on an existing site in Leeds Road, brought to mind a scheme Bradford Council had in the 1930s.
All that block of property and more was due for demolition to make way for turning Leeds Road into a dual carriageway along most of its length. This failed to happen due to the Second World War, I believe.
Around 1960, Pudsey and Leeds Council did their bit by building Stanningley by-pass from Dawson’s Corner, and Bradford Road was made double track up to the Bradford boundary.
My question is, what has happened to Bradford’s Leeds Road scheme?
