SIR – A cavalcade of claret and amber lit up the dank and dismal Sunday morning heralding the day of reckoning. Optimism filled the air as cars, vans, and coaches headed for Wembley to support our beloved City in the historic cup final. Having seen off formidable Premiership opposition, the stage was set for one last “Hurrah!” and the silverware would be heading back up the M1.
The fairytale was dashed courtesy of an excellent footballing team and the size of the Wembley pitch and, ultimately, City simply ran out of steam. Failure? Don’t kid yourself!
This was a remarkable achievement by a club that managed to punch its way against all reasonable odds to a major cup final; to finish in second place out of 92 competitors and to make a few bob along the way, raising the profile of the club and the city.
The fantastic support enjoyed during this campaign demonstrates the huge potential of the club to reignite success both on and off the field. Whatever the rest of this season holds, the City faithful will forever cherish the dream that was played out to capacity crowds before being extinguished at the final hurdle.
Thanks for the memories, lads!
