SIR – Bradford Council chief executive Tony Reeves says (T&A, February 20) that substantial savings have been made by the Council following a review of management structures at all levels.

Further, the number of posts where staff earn in excess of £50,000 has reduced from the previous year.

That sounds wonderful until we read a report by the Taxpayers Alliance which suggests that Bradford Council had the biggest bill in Yorkshire for spending on higher-earning staff in the last financial year. This is surely a disturbing statistic.

One has to wonder whether any Council review should instead have been conducted by someone other than the chief executive when one considers that he and director of regeneration Barra Mac Ruairi have presided over the shambles that Bradford has become over the last few years.

Perhaps their roles and salaries need further investigation by the Council executive?
