SIR - The lights that festooned our city centre were not in celebration of the end of Eid as stated by Michael Cornforth (T&A, November 1), but part of the Muslim festival Eid-ul-Fitr marking the end of the fast of Ramadan.

For some considerable time I have advocated, to no avail, the inclusion of ethnography in school curricula whereby such misconceptions would be eradicated.

Rashid Awan, president of the Pakistan Society of West Yorkshire, recently told me that although he thinks it does play a very positive role one has to be very careful because too much emphasis on it might cause resentment among some people.

I cannot reconcile myself with this logic. Bradford has a paucity of centres where people of all faiths can get together to learn and better understand each other's cultures.

If we wish to promote integration what better way than to start with our children?

Unless there is a U-turn it will be another missed opportunity.
